If you use a block for this purpose, you need to modify the block regularly. There are many reasons why you should use AutoCAD blocks ( at least we can list 5 of them here).Ī block can make a complicated drawing simpler. I’m not impressed so far, I have my menu that will not stay on restart, wasted a day on that one, no resolution, another day wasted on this block insert issue… All worked well in 2019.We often need to modify a block definition. You have to wonder if the programmers actually use the software…I just installed AutoCAD Arch 2020, as I’m waiting for 2021 to hit the Building Suite that contains it, but as you stated it’s still broken in 2021.
Even if they would fix the grayed out redefine commands in the right click, but not fixing it through the full 2020 season, I don’t hold out much hope. It still works the correct way in CLASSICINSERT. So don’t escape after you say redefine, you must paste the block then delete it. Also if double clicking on the block to redefine it, it updates the drawings while pasting but if you don’t paste the block in the drawing it will revert back, you think you updated the block, but you didn’t. Anything new MUST at least do what the old command did and not add steps to a simple block insert. I also added an “INS”=INSERT, just in case I want to explore more of this new (worthless) Blocks dialog. Now if you type an “I” for INSERT, this now will bring up CLASSICINSERT. Go to Express Tools and “Command Alias Editor” and change the “I” = INSERT to “I”= CLASSICINSERT. You can set the INSERT shortcut command to be CLASSICINSERT. That's why we missing the function at this point.
The option "redefine" and "redefine & insert" is in DC also NOT available for Files, BUTīut with the new Block Palette you kicked the (classic)insert dialog and not the design-center palette, It works only if acad means to detect that there are differences and so it is useful to redefine an internal Block with a external dwg(as Block). Where/how the function is implemented wasn't a good idea and it for me it isn't working correct. I would take the new BlockPalatte, because the profit of access internal blockdefinition of external dwg are more important (for smarter workflows) as 'DWG as Block'.īut we (all?) thinking the same: AutoDesk: Please "fix" this! New Blockpalette (even without the existing function of 'DWG as Block2-Redefine!!) Q:Whats the big different between the possibility of DC-Favarites?īut you (hero) found where the function is hidden, so it is available (by a realy stupid way and only if two parameter matchs to what you want.Īnd about: for "stand alone" blocks., => for some quicknotwellreaders, we talk ing about DWG/FILEs. With the usual file browsing one can add favourite folders, you can't do without in a company network environment. The thing I don't like about DesignCenter (solution of is the complicated way you have to browse to the right folder.
Note: We are talking about an totally new feature, nothing changed in the old command INSERT, only the name (from insert to classicinsert, acadblockdialog are already the same) But if "nobody" find the way to re-insert a file as block, "nobody" will missing this feature, lol.
